MAKE A PLAN

Talk. Discuss with your family the potential of disasters in your area. Set responsibilities for each member of the household, and work together as a team. Make an alternate plan in case someone is absent.

Plan. Choose two places to meet after a disaster. One should be directly outside your home, in case of a sudden emergency such as a fire. The other should be outside your neighborhood, in case of an evacuation.

Learn. Each adult should learn about turning off utilities such as electricity, water and gas. You should also know how to properly use a fire extinguisher.

Check supplies. Review your disaster supplies and replace water and food every six months.

Share information. Everyone should know emergency contact information, including a designated out-of-town contact.

Practice. Stage an evacuation of your home twice a year. Practice earthquake, tornado and fire drills at home, school and work.
