How much blood?
The Tennessee Valley Blood Services Region encompasses 84 counties in four states. The Region schedules 15-18 blood drives each week day to collect the 800 pints of blood needed for the patients in the region’s hospitals.

It takes two days to receive test results to verify blood will be a benefit and not a barrier to a patient’s health. Please don’t wait “until somebody needs it.” The need is daily, hourly, even by minute. Every two minutes someone in the United States needs a blood transfusion.

See “How Much Blood is Needed” under Blood Facts. Various surgeries and blood needs are noted.

How can I give?
Call 1-800 GIVE LIFE to find a blood drive near you. If one is not scheduled near you, call the same number to tell us you will sponsor one. There are federal regulations about the site, but with 42 friends and neighbors with arms outstretched, we can probably come to you. We can make it a regular drive – say every two months or quarterly – or we can make it an annual event. Let’s talk.

Your Donation
Your whole blood donation is stored while the tests are run. When the blood is released for distribution, it is divided into red blood cells, platelets and plasma, depending on the current patient need.

Our Thanks
Blood donors are a rare breed. About 60% of us are eligible to give blood and only about 5% do. We appreciate the time you give and the blood you donate. We may contact you when you are eligible again! We’d be delighted to have you become a recruiter and invite your friends to donate with you.
